Material that dense reaches a container’s weight limit long before the box looks full, so a clean load of adobe, stucco, or old tile belongs in a 10-yard box at a heavy-material rate rather than a larger container.

Older homes can hide asbestos. Adobe and masonry themselves are fine in the box, but Tortugas homes built or remodeled before the mid-1980s can hold asbestos in floor tile, sheet vinyl, popcorn ceilings, or pipe wrap.

If you suspect it, a small-sample lab test is cheap next to the cost of disturbing it — a positive result means a certified abatement contractor must remove it under federal NESHAP rules before it can leave the site.

Cleanouts are among the most common Tortugas jobs. Because so many homes here have been held in the same family for generations, clearing one for a sale, a move, or a settled estate is a big, emotional push — and the right container takes the logistics off your plate.

Furniture, appliances, mattresses, household goods, and years of stored items all load freely; they fill a box by volume rather than weight, so a 15- or 20-yard usually carries a whole-home cleanout, sized down if the lot is especially tight.
