The streets near the historic plaza and along Avenida de Mesilla are narrow, walled, and often lined with adobe that has stood for well over a century.

If you suspect it, a small-sample lab test is cheap next to the cost of disturbing it — a positive result means a certified abatement contractor must remove it under federal NESHAP rules before it can leave the site.

Restoring an old Mesilla home throws off some of the heaviest debris we haul. Adobe brick and stucco run roughly 3,200 pounds per cubic yard, and salvaged clay or Saltillo floor tile adds another 700 to 900 pounds per 100 square feet.

Material that dense reaches a container’s weight limit long before the box looks full, so a clean load of adobe, stucco, or old tile usually belongs in a 10-yard box at a heavy-material rate rather than a larger container.

A mixed renovation load — wood, drywall, cabinetry, fixtures, and packaging — is lighter for its size and suits a 20-yard.
